Other than a couple of movies, all his movies ended up being failures.
Albeit he is trying different directors and stories, he is not able to taste even an average amount of success. Neither an experienced director like V.V.
Vinayak nor a novice B.V.S Ravi was successful in giving a hit on Tej’s name. But this did not stop the mega hero’s effort for a hit. This time he chose Karunakaran, who is very well known to make love stories and the movie is named as Tej – I Love You. Anupama Parameswaran is the heroine. The movie is produced by K.S. Rama Rao under Creative Commercials banner.
Rama Rao has shown great confidence that this movie will definitely satisfy the hunger of Tej for a hit. The movie hit the big screens today.
Let’s find out if Karunakaran succeeds in breaking the flop run of Tej. Story: A young boy Tej (Sai Dharam Tej) is raised by his peddananna. He is the most pampered boy in the family and gets enormous love from all his uncles and aunts. One day, Tej kills two men while saving a lady from getting abused sexually. Tej goes to jail and the lady leaves to London. The lady has a dying wish of helping the boy and her daughter Nandini (Anupama) takes up this task and comes to India. In the process of trying to find out the guy who saved her mom, Nandini happens to meet Tej and love buds between them.
Just before she proposes her love to Tej, a tragic incident happens and she forgets the time period she exactly spends in India and also the reason she came to India. Will Nandini regain her past and know the reason of coming to India? Will she be able to find out the boy who saved her mom is none other than Tej? Will she be able to know her love on Tej?
The remaining part of the film comprises of the above twists which are unfold in a very old fashioned and illogic manner. Performance: Sai Dharam Tej looks okay, but there is nothing much quite in the story to do anything special for him. Moreover, he looks confused and lethargic. Heard Allu Arvind saying that Tej does movies just for commitment sake in spite of knowing it would be a flop. Wake up Tej.it’s high time you put sentiments aside and be practical and logical as this may cost your career. In the thirst of getting a hit, Tej seems to be too quick in making movies thus faltering in selecting the best story. It would be better Tej takes good hiatus from now for his next movie and comeback with a strong and powerful story.
Anupama looks pleasant, but she needs to improve more in terms of acting. There are quite a few scenes which clearly show she is acting. Viva Harsha plays the role of Tej’s friend. His comedy looks ugly. Prudhvi Raj who plays the role of Tej’s babai too fails in producing laughs. His comedy seems forcible and predictable. Jayaprakash and Pavitra Lokesh have nothing special to offer other than their routine family weeping scenes.
Anish Kuruvilla looks dumb in the role of Anupama’s father. He simply delivers the dialogues with hardly any expression shown on his face. Technical Department: Story of the movie is old fashioned. Looks like, Karunakaran is yet to come out of ‘Toli Prema’ time period. One has to tell him loudly that this family melodrama type love stories work no more.
The story lacks grip right from the beginning and is found nowhere in the remaining part too. The story seems to be a mix of ‘Vasanta Kokila’ and ‘Darling’ concept, but by interval time, you can clearly find a confused director and the cast acting by force. There are hardly any impacting dialogues.
This being a love story, one would expect heart-touching dialogues. One dialogue ‘kharchupettaaru kada ani flop cinemani hit chesestaara enti’, this coincidentally suits a lot to this movie. Unfortunately, Karunakaran not only selected old fashioned story, but also the dialogues. All the dialogues are predictable. Editing and screenplay are better not to speak about.
The first and second halves compete a lot in their length and by the time the first half ends, your patience goes for a toss. By the time the movie ends, you start repenting for seeing this movie.
Music is erratic and the songs seem wrongly placed. Cinematography is not so great, but is of okay type.
Production values are pretty good and in fact it’s the only positive thing in this movie. Director Karunakaran does a futile job in making out this into at least a one-time watch movie.
Rather than putting hero and producer careers at risk, he better come out from his ‘Toli Prema’ time and know what’s actually happening in the current trend and then direct a movie. Ultimately, Tej I Love You is drab, mediocre, and very boring to watch.
Pros: + Anupama’s presence. + Production values. Cons: – Jaded screenplay. – Pretty old-fashioned story. – Illogical direction.

Script & Direction Anil Ravipudi has come up with a story line, which may not be anything new but holds good prospects for comedy and fun elements that would be loved by the common audiences. The characters have been placed in such a premise, which would allow them to explore the genre of comedy in a good way. The writer in him as placed umpteen number of such situations, especially in the first half of the movie, which keep the audiences entertained. The comedies do hit the right chords and offer a laugh riot for the audiences. In fact, the first half of the film is thoroughly entertaining and the excellent packaging of Anil Ravipudi doesn't let you think about anything else.
However, he falters somewhere in between in the second half of the movie, especially when the terrain of the story shifts to another region. Here, some of the comedies do fall flat. The pace also goes for a dip at some portions.
Nevertheless, the film-maker in him tries to pulls back the movie at the right time. Even though the climax isn't great it wouldn't disappoint the audiences either. Performances Venkatesh simply steals the show a Venky.
His amazing comic timing rules the film and it is always sheer pleasure to watch him in such well-written roles. The actor does those comedy sequences with ease. Varaun Tej too puts up an impressive show as Varun and has come up with a steady performance. The leading ladies played by Tamannaah and Mehreen Pirzada get equal scope for performance and they have come up with a good job. Prakash Raj was good in his role but the character lacked the required depth. So was the case of Rajedra Prasad.
Other Aspects The songs set to tune by Devi Sri Prasad was decent but felt like the BGM could have been better. Cinematographer has done a fine job.
